August 1, 2009 marks the date for the 5th Annual Eureka Montana Quilt Show.
Beginning at 7 am on August 1st, volunteers gathered in the Historical Village and began hanging the quilts. The quilts (approx 450 of them) were organized and bagged for their area. Volunteers were provided a 'map' and clothespins, and with their ladders they were off to hang the blaze of color in the Historical Village and up Dewey Ave to Memorial Park.
There were quilt related and food vendors in the Historical Village, as well the the sales desk for purchasing quilts, a t-shirt commemorating the show, special quilt blocks, and raffle tickets. For the 2nd consecutive year, we also had a display of small quilts which were fund raisers for Alzheimers Research.
Another special exhibit this year was a group of Patriotic Quilts from a special display.
The quilts remained hanging until 5 pm. Festivities began two days before the show when we hosted two days of quilting workshops with an internationally known quilting instructor. This year wel enjoyed workshops with Sharon Pederson.
The two workshops she taught were Two At A Time - A reversible Quilt and Machine Applique for the Terrified.
The purpose of the Eureka Montana Quilt Show is to create a tourist attraction, inviting quilt admirers from all over the country to enjoy our town.
The downtown merchants tell us that this show gives them their best business day of the year.
We have a featured quilter at each show. She shared upwards of 25 of her favorite quilts. This year our featured quilter was Susan Farmer from Libby, MT.
There was the opportunity for everyone to vote for their favorite quilt. The Viewer's Choice winner receives a cash prize of $250. This Year the winner was Kathy Munkelwitz!
